RAPAPORT... Petra Diamonds Limited has received $10.1 million from the sale of an exceptional 23.16-carat pink diamond, achieving $433,938 per carat for the rough stone. The miner recovered the gem from the Williamson mine in Tanzania in November 2015, according to a statement December 9.

Petra, which is listed on the London Stock Exchange, sold the gem into a partnership and has retained a 20 percent interest future proceeds from polished sales.

The stone was bought by Golden Yellow Diamonds on behalf of Israeli diamond manufacturer M.A. Anavi Diamond Group, which specializes in large and unique colored diamonds.

“This sale result affirms that the market for high quality coloured diamonds remains robust,” said Johan Dippenaar, Petra’s chief executive officer. “Pinks of this size and quality are incredibly rare, but the Williamson mine is known to produce them from time to time. This bodes well for the future of the mine as we continue to ramp up production and optimize the processing plant. Given the exceptional nature of this pink stone, we are delighted to retain exposure to the uplift in the polished.”
