RAPAPORT... Jean-Marc Lieberherr, the former chairman of the Diamond Producers Association (DPA), will take on the role of chief executive officer of the marketing organization.

The appointment comes amid a reshuffle of senior positions at the DPA following Lieberherr’s exit from Rio Tinto, where he was managing director of the miner’s diamond business.

As reported earlier this month by Rapaport News, the DPA chairmanship will be taken by Stephen Lussier, executive vice president of marketing at De Beers and chief executive officer of the Forevermark brand. Jim Pounds, executive vice president for diamonds at Dominion Diamond Corporation, has been appointed vice chairman of the association.

Lussier, Pounds and Lieberherr will work closely with the other DPA members to develop the organization’s strategic approach, according to a De Beers statement February 15. These include “maintaining and enhancing consumer demand for and confidence in diamonds, providing a reliable source of industry information and communicating the role and contribution of diamond producers to the diamond sector and broader society.”

“I am looking forward to working with diamond producers and all other industry stakeholders to build an even stronger, more resilient diamond sector,” Lieberherr said. “It is key to the prosperity and livelihood of millions of families the world over and as such it is an exciting and rewarding endeavor.”
