RAPAPORT... Former De Beers chief executive officer Gareth Penny has joined diamond exploration company Pangolin Diamonds Corp. as non-executive chairman.

Penny (pictured) left De Beers in 2010, after having steered the company during his final 5 years out of 22 he spent at the miner and its parent company Anglo American. He is currently non-executive chairman of MMC Norilsk Nickel, a producer of nickel, palladium, platinum and copper and is non-executive director and chairman of the remuneration committee at Swiss bank Julius Bär.

“His lifetime industry experience and proven leadership and operational skills, coupled with his extensive international business management expertise, will be invaluable additions to our board,” said Leon Daniels, Pangolin’s president and chief executive officer.

Pangolin is working on seven diamond development projects in Botswana.
