RAPAPORT... Christmas was not white enough for jewelry buyers in New Hampshire, after a local retailer had promised to refund in-store purchases if enough snow fell.

Springer’s Jewelers said it would return up to $10,000 to anyone who bought products between November 24 and December 9, as long as it snowed at least 6 inches outside its Portsmouth store on December 25. But with only 4.3 inches falling, according to official snowfall authority Weather Analytics, the payouts never came.

“Nobody was more excited than the Springer’s team that our 11th year of Let It Snow might be the one,” the jeweler said in a statement on its website about the long-running program.

“First, we’d like to thank our incredible customers who allow us to have this much fun every winter, and who invite us to share in life’s most special moments year-round. Next, we’d like to thank everyone who has joined in the excitement over the past week — sharing predictions, crossing their fingers, and refreshing the weather forecast alongside us,” Springers added.

This year was, however, the closest Springer’s had come to paying out, it said.
