RAPAPORT... Gemological Science International (GSI) has launched a new screening and testing office in New York’s Diamond District.

The facility, which will serve as a hub for the institute’s US-based customers, will be dedicated to identifying undisclosed synthetic diamonds.

“Demand for screening and testing services has grown exponentially as the industry faces one of its biggest challenges yet — undisclosed lab-grown diamonds,” Debbie Azar, GSI’s president and cofounder, said last week. “As one of the world’s largest gemological organizations, we play an important part in ensuring transparency and confidence in the global diamond industry, and US markets specifically, by expanding our screening and testing services.”

GSI plans to take its offering global in the future, it added.

The new office will be located at 37 West 47th Street.
