Members of the Israel and Shanghai diamond exchanges are set to sign a cooperation agreement during the inaugural Israel Diamond Week that opens in the Chinese city on Tuesday.

The three-day event marks the first time Israeli diamantaires are displaying their goods in an official capacity to members of the Shanghai Diamond Exchange (SDE), which organized the meet in partnership with the Israel Diamond Exchange (IDE). Sixteen Israeli companies have made the trip.

Included in the roster is a one-day seminar titled “The China-Israel Diamond Forum,” in which participants will discuss the role of technology, e-commerce and branding natural diamonds when promoting the industry. During the seminar, IDE president Yoram Dvash and his counterpart at the SDE, Qiang Lin, will sign a memorandum of understanding to deepen the ongoing cooperation between the two bourses, the IDE said.

“The cooperative agreements that we will sign during this week will enable new contacts between Israeli and Chinese diamond companies and will strengthen mutually beneficial relations between the Israeli and Chinese diamond exchanges,” Dvash explained. “They will open up new and very large markets for Israeli diamantaires.”

The trip will also include visits to diamond-jewelry manufacturing facilities in the area, social and networking events, and a China-Israel Diamond Sales Meet. Dvash invited members of the SDE to attend the 2020 International Diamond Week in Israel, which begins February 10.
