Gem Diamonds has recovered two large, high-quality diamonds from its Letšeng mine in Lesotho, the company said this week.

A 162-carat white diamond was unearthed on September 7, while a 143-carat, type II stone was discovered on September 5, constituting the 10th and 11th stones over 100 carats found at Letšeng this year. The company has now recovered four of that magnitude in less than a month, following the retrieval of a 233-carat, type II rough last week, and a 442-carat, type II diamond on August 23.

The miner also found a yellow diamond weighing 163 carats in June, a 114-carat, D-color in March, and a 183-carat, type IIa rough in February.

The recovery of these large diamonds “highlights the strong operational performance at Letšeng during these difficult times,” the company noted.
