RAPAPORT... Diamond
rings by contemporary designers Cindy Chao and Stephen Webster will headline
the Bonhams Rare Jewels & Jadeite Sale in Hong Kong on November 26.
The top lot
is a dress ring by Chao featuring an oval-cut, 4.23-carat, fancy
pink-purple diamond, estimated at $1 million (HKD 8 million) to $1.3 million (HKD 10 million). The diamond is wrapped
within a ribbon-design setting, pavé-set with brilliant and cushion-cut
diamonds.
“Cindy Chao is one of the most sought-after
Asian jewelers of the 21st century, renowned for harnessing the ancient
architectural legacy of her family to create one-of-a-kind jewels,” said Graeme
Thompson, head of jewelry for Bonhams Asia.
Another
highlight is a diamond and colored-diamond ring (pictured) by
British jewelry designer Webster, regarded as one of the most prominent
designers of his generation.
The center stone is a brilliant-cut, 10.03-carat,
E-color, VS2-clarity diamond set within a “thunderbolt” frame of pink diamonds
and additional brilliant-, baguette- and marquise-cut diamonds. The ring is
estimated at $190,000 (HKD 1.5 million) to $280,000 (HKD 2.2 million).
Also set
to go under the hammer will be a 17.33-carat Burmese sapphire
and diamond ring, mounted by Bulgari. The ring features an
oval-cut sapphire, set between crescent-shaped diamond shoulders, and has a
pre-sale estimate of $370,000 (HKD 2.9 million) to $500,000 (HKD 3.9 million).
A 10.02 carat “No Oil” Colombian emerald and diamond
ring estimated at $440,000 (HKD 3.4 million) to $510,000 (HKD 4 million) will also feature in the Bonhams sale. The cushion-shaped
emerald is set between trillion-cut diamond shoulders.
