RAPAPORT... Botswana Diamonds appointed former Rockwell Diamonds chief
executive officer James Campbell as its managing director, effective
immediately.
Campbell was
formerly a managing director of African Diamonds, where he was closely
involved in the discovery of the Karowe mine in Botswana before it was sold to Lucara Diamond Corp. After the acquisition, he became Lucara’s
vice-president for new business, working on developing the Karowe deposit. He
also spent more than 20 years with De Beers, his last role being general manager
for advanced exploration and resource delivery.
He resigned
from Rockwell in September in the middle of an operational review.
At Botswana Diamonds, Campbell (pictured) will work closely with
Russia-based miner ALROSA on its joint exploration venture with Botswana
Diamonds in the Orapa and Gope regions of Botswana, and with other joint owners
of the Maibwe project in the Gope region.
Campbell “brings a wealth of experience and skills in the
diamond industry, which I believe will help drive our joint ventures with ALROSA
in Orapa and Gope forward,”
said chairman John Teeling.
