RAPAPORT... DiamondCorp resumed
tunneling at its Lace mine in South Africa almost two weeks ahead of schedule
after an earlier delay to drilling at the site.
Development
is focused on the high-grade K4 kimberlite, the miner said in a statement
November 20. It follows successful installation of steel-arched sets as a “safe
canopy” for workers and machinery because of ground conditions. The need to
build the structure caused interruptions to operations, DiamondCorp said in an earlier statement November
3.
“Resumption
of development work means that many of the operational challenges we have been
facing in recent months have been overcome, albeit that the overall development
and production timetable remains behind schedule, as previously announced,” DiamondCorp’s
chief executive officer Paul Loudon said in the statement.
DiamondCorp
owns 74 percent of the Lace mine.
