Designer Lines

By Amber Michelle
January started off at full throttle with the ENK Accessories Circuit the first week of the month, followed by the JA New York Winter Show two weeks later. Both shows highlighted several trends going forward in 2015. Design-oriented jewelry featuring diamond melee was a key item at the Accessories Circuit, held at the Piers in New York City. Elements of nature — leaves, stars and moons — remain important. Small layering pieces and lots of bold color — especially blues and greens — were major in fine jewelry. Stephen Dweck showcased his new Honeycomb Hexagon bangle, with diamonds or colored gemstones on the sides, that features his signature detailing all around.

Julez Bryant had a sprinkle of diamond sparkle on her gold jewelry that she says are “fashionable pieces that women buy for themselves.” Messages of joy, peace, love and other inspirational words and symbols were also center stage. Alex Woo introduced the Little Words collection that layers with her existing pieces, such as her Little Activist pendants, allowing consumers to create a highly personalized look that they can customize according to their own interests. Dilamani also showed off message jewelry with a wide array of words shining with diamonds. Over at the JA Show, at Javits Center in New York City, diamond and colored gemstone slices continue to dominate, along with silver that is blackened, textured or polished to a high shine. Yellow and rose gold are both looking fresh again, with yellow taking a slight edge over rose. Pearls of all sorts were everywhere, mixed with colored gems or blackened silver opaque diamond beads. Perhaps the coolest take on pearls are those strung on leather or suede cords and then worn in multiples of varying lengths. Colored gemstones with diamond accents were also important. Zaiken Jewelry continued to add more pieces to its Alter Ego collection that has diamond pavé on one side and enamel with diamonds on the other, allowing one item to do double duty or an easy way to mismatch earrings, a style that is on trend right now. Over at Vivaan, diamond or gemstone slice jewelry continues to be a best seller, offering large flamboyant pieces with unusual shapes and colors. Gabriel & Co. introduced its new ShadowPlay jewelry, with silver opaque diamonds dazzling in blackened silver. Thistle & Bee debuted its new Oyster collection of matte silver jewelry outlined with diamond pavé creating an elegant contrast of light. Still going strong was Angelique de Paris, who continues to delight with her colorful resin, silver and gemstone bracelets, rings and pendants.
