RAPAPORT... The management of the Baselworld trade fair unveiled its renovated exhibition ‎space on Wednesday that was constructed at a cost of $454 million (CHF 430 million). ‎

‎“The new exhibition venue is the largest investment ever made in the Swiss ‎trade show industry,” said René Kamm, the CEO of MCH Group, which ‎organizes the show. “After five years of development and planning and three ‎years of construction, we were able to commission the new hall complex in ‎February 2013  on schedule and on budget.”‎

The construction expands the available exhibition space to 141,000 square ‎meters by joining two previously separated halls into one overarching ‎structure.  ‎

The show opens on Thursday with 1,460 exhibitors from 40 countries ‎participating. Organizers expect approximately 100,000 visitors from 100 ‎countries to attend and about 3,500 journalists to cover the week-long event. ‎

Sylvie Ritter, the managing director of Baselworld, reported that the hall layout ‎was changed to better reflect recent market trends. “Watches and jewelry are ‎products that have grown closer together in recent years and are now on ‎display side-by-side at this event,” she explained.‎

As such, the renovated hall 1 consists of global watch and jewelry brands ‎while hall 2 hosts so-called international brands. Diamonds, precious stones ‎and pearls exhibitors are located in hall 3, of the 12 halls that make up the ‎show. ‎

Ritter reported that the BASELWORLD Brand Book is being published for the ‎first time at the show, as a who’s who guide to the watches and jewelry ‎industry.‎

Baselworld 2013 takes place from April 25 to May 2.‎
