RAPAPORT... The Dubai Pearl Exchange is conducting a commercial pearl tender at Almas Tower, showcasing 45 lots of gems that were provided by RAK Pearls. The tender marks the first time that cultivated pearls from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have been available for tender, according to the Pearl Exchange. The tender concludes on June 12 through a silent auction, which organizers expect will attract more than 50 local and regional jewelry companies. Viewing and bidding is by invitation only. Ahmed Bin Sulayem, the executive chairman of the Dubai Multi Commodities Centre, said, “We are extremely proud to be the place of choice for this market-first tender of UAE cultivated pearls. This showcases the perfect combination of our rich pearl heritage and our modern day trading facilities, and we congratulate RAK Pearls for reviving the UAE’s pearling tradition after 70 years.'' Abdulla Rashed Al Suwaidi, the managing director of RAK Pearls, added, “The UAE's only organized cultured pearl farm, RAK Pearls is committed to helping the country reclaim its role in the pearl industry. This auction marks a significant moment in our effort to promote, develop and sustain the UAE’s pearling tradition. We thank DMCC and the DPE for their support and for hosting this milestone auction.”
