RAPAPORT... More than 80 celebrities added their glamour to the sparkling array of jewelry presented in the Beti show as The India International Jewellery Week (IIJW) 2013 opened on Sunday.

Beti, a joint initiative between the Gitanjali Group and Anu Ranjan, seeks to empower women and aid individuals who suffered from violent acid attacks and other atrocities. Brand ambassadors for Beti -- actresses  Anushka Ranjan  and  Sonakshi Sinha (pictured on the left in the photo) -- walked down  the runway, among others,  including Sinha's costar in ''Once Upon a Time in Mumbai, Dobaara,'' Akshay Kumarsonakshi sinha (pictured in right of photo).

Sinha wore a diamond studded choker necklace from D'damas' new collection and Kumar sported jewelry from Nizam. Sonali Mukherjee, an acid attack survivor who Beti helped by providing treatment and rehabilitation, was at the show and shared her appreciation for the organization's support. Ankita Shorey, Miss India International 2011, also appeared as part of a sequence featuring designer Mohini's new collection that interspersed fashion with performances by singers Rahul Vaidya and Palak Mucchal.

The show was presented by some of India's leading jewelry brands, including Nakshatra, D'damas, Gili, Asmi and Envi by Gitanjali and Gemfields.

"Jewelry is usually seen as something that adds to a woman's beauty," said Sinha. "Now when leading jewelry brands like D'damas and others, moved by the tragedy of women who have faced atrocities like acid attacks, join hands with significant social platforms like Beti, their glitter is enhanced many times over."
