RAPAPORT... Lucara Diamond Corporation recovered a 257.24-carat rough diamond from its Karowe mine in Botswana. This very large stone marks the 14th exceptionally large diamonds --or one with more than 100 carats-- to be recovered this year. There have been 47 rough diamonds recovered that were larger than 50 carats. Lucara described the diamond as beautiful and clear and it will be sold in the fourth quarter of 2013.
William Lamb, the president of Lucara, said, "The Karowe mine continues to outperform with the consistent recovery of large, high-value diamonds. The recovery of this magnificent 257-carat diamond, along with the recovery of a significant parcel of larger stones over the past six months, strengthens our understanding of the resource at Karowe. Revenue generated from the sale of these diamonds will be used to reduce debt and strengthen Lucara's balance sheet.''
Lucara also stated that its most recent, and sixth rough diamond tender of the year closed recently with all lots selling at ''very strong'' prices.
