RAPAPORT... The Antwerp World Diamond Centre (AWDC) organized a large-scale evacuation exercise in the Antwerp diamond district today in cooperation with the city and the local police department. The majority of the buildings and companies located in the diamond district participated, with approximately 2,200 people practicing the evacuation drill.

The exercise tested relevant security procedures in a controlled, non-emergency environment as a legal obligation required once a year. Participating companies received a certificate for their own  insurance purposes.

The AWDC stated that security and safety are critical aspects for the diamond industry and  the AWDC Security Office plays a critical role in maintaining and coordinating security across the Antwerp diamond square mile. The mission of AWDC Security Office is to support and facilitate the diamond business and to protect the diamond community’s personnel, products, reputation, as well as provide information and assets against all internal, external, deliberate or accidental threats.
