"During this special celebration of the 2013 Championship win, we
were honored to present our players and uniformed personnel and staff
with these spectacular rings that we hope capture the emotions of the
2013 season," said Red Sox principal owner John W. Henry. "The rings celebrate the Red Sox's winning history, capture the unique personality of the team, and highlight the City of Boston which was an integral part of this team's story last season."
Jostens crafted the ring in 14-karat white gold with 126 ,
16 custom-cut sapphires and nine custom-cut rubies. The left side of the ring pays homage to Boston, while the right side of the
ring features the individual person's name and number. It is also
customized to highlight the number of World Series titles the individual
has won with the Red Sox by portraying either multiple trophy images or the Fenway Park façade. The inside further memorializes the season with a Bearded Brothers image and 10-30-13, the date that the Red Sox brought the World Championship back to Fenway Park.
Chris Poitras, the vice president of Jostens, said, "Jostens is thrilled to partner with the Boston Red Sox
for the third time in the last 10 years on the creation of a World
Series Championship ring. We are proud to help present the team with a
ring that celebrates the team's eighth championship title and historic
victory. This dazzling ring was meticulously designed to
emphasize the best qualities of each of the materials used and create
an exceptionally beautiful ring."
Ortiz's special ring was set in 14-karat white gold and features nine custom-cut rubies depicting the hanging sox
logo over a handset pave surface. The words "World Series" encircle the top of the ring and above the hanging sox is a crest, forming the letters MVP. The right side of the ring depicts the Red Sox 'B' logo with the words "3x World Champion
'04 '07 '13" above it, and Ortiz's jersey number 34 below. The left
side of the ring includes an image of the designated hitter with Ortiz's
name across the top and 2013 below. Ortiz's stats are included in a
special arbor, which is depicted on the inside of the ring. The slugger
hit 11 for 16 (.688) with two home runs and six RBIs during the World
Series.
