RAPAPORT... The
World Federation of Diamond Bourses (WFDB) accepted a proposal to create forums for new members as it discussed
ways of expanding
its global footprint and becoming a more influential voice on the global stage, the trade body
said in a statement November 3.
A
decision to this effect was taken by the WFDB’s executive committee at its
latest meeting in Germany. The organization’s leadership agreed to create
sub-committees, which would set up the events open to newly-enrolled associate
members and national members.
Members
of the body’s organizing group discussed expansion steps by accepting more associate
and other members, and introducing a global communications strategy to make it an
authoritative trade organization of the diamond industry.
“We want to attract leading players such as service providers
to the diamond industry,” WFDB President Ernie Blom wrote in an email to Rapaport News. “We see the
industry's umbrella marketing bodies in the different centers, as well as
banks, insurance firms, producers and diamond-producing states, as being likely
members. We have received a lot of interest from these types of bodies in being
involved in the WFDB and we look forward to accommodating them in our WFDB
family.”
The WFDB
will hold its next executive committee meeting February 28, 2016, in Seoul, a
day ahead of its Asian summit, the statement added. |
