Namibia’s Ministry of Mines and Energy has approved a 12 month extension on two exclusive prospecting licenses that comprise the Skeleton Coast Diamond and Mineral Sands project, located in the northwest coast of Namibia.

In a statement issued on August 1, Reefton Mining NL said that the licenses were due to expire on November 22, 2006, but have now been extended to November 22, 2007, prior to which the company can apply for a mining license.

The extension of the licenses was conditional upon Reefton’s relinquishment of a third exclusive prospecting license, EPL 2698, comprised of the Skeleton Coast Diamond and Mineral Sands Project.  Reefton is also obliged to provide a detailed relinquishment report prior to its expiry. Reefton considered EPL 2698 to be the least prospective of the three licenses making up the project area. The two remaining prospecting licenses cover a total of 160 kilometers in the north-west coast of Namibia.
