RAPAPORT... African Diamonds PLC, in a partnership with De Beers, is expecting to begin open cast mining at its AK6 site in Botswana by early 2009, according to chairman John Teeling in his annual statement made January 24, 2007 in London.

The chairman said the organization was focused in Botswana, and was working with De Beers to assemble a team of experts to develop the project.

Teeling also said that drilling on the adjacent five hectare pipe of AK8 was taking place and would likely become a satellite supplier to AK6 or a standalone mine. He also said that results were expected soon from PL36, a 14.5 hectare area composed of three kimberlite pipes in the Orapa province.
