RAPAPORT... Variety reported that a $15 million television mini-series is in the works -- centered upon the "treacherous world" of the international diamond trade.

The television show titled Diamonds is to star James Purefoy and Judy Davis under contract with show producer Alchemy Television Group.

The daily entertainment magazine reported that the show involves several international studios and that segments would be ready to broadcast in second quarter of 2008.

Andy Wilson was selected to direct Diamonds from David Vainola's script titled the same. The main plot centers upon Davis' character searching for clues of her daughter's murder at a diamond mine (somewhere) in Africa. The character's search places her in direct line to battle the son of a diamond magnate.

The mini-series will be shot on location in South Africa, London, and in Canada.

According to Variety, Alchemy's main production partner is Toronto-based Sienna Films. Other producers on the project include South Africa's Philo Films and France's Breakout Films.
