RAPAPORT... The research team at American Gem Society Laboratories completed a study covering the illumination effects associated with a diamond’s beauty. The report, “Evaluation of brilliance, fire and scintillation in round brilliant gemstones,” appeared in the September issue of Optical Engineering, the flagship journal of The International Society of Optical Engineering.

Lead by Peter Yantzer, executive director of AGS Laboratories, the team created more than 60 illustrations along with a comprehensive analysis of diamond performance, including illumination effects such as a diamond’s brilliance. The paper also gave a state-of-the art overview of the advances in gem characterization.

“Authoring such an intensive and important paper was an immense undertaking for our research team,” said Frank Dallahan, president and CEO of AGS Laboratories. “Having the report published in a journal as prestigious as Optical Engineering gives AGS Laboratories important recognition and backing by the scientific community that the AGS Cut Grade so deserves.”

The journal publishes peer-reviewed papers reporting on research and development in optical science and engineering and the practical applications of known optical science, engineering, and technology.
