RAPAPORT... Birks & Mayors reported that net sales fell 3 percent year on year to $68.8 million in the first quarter that ended June 30, 2012. Comparable-store sales increased 3 percent.
The decline in sales came as the company operated 10 fewer stores than in the previous year. Birks & Mayors also wrote off $1.7 million due to currency conversions as the Canadian dollar depreciated against the U.S. dollar.
