RAPAPORT... Birks & Mayors reported that net sales fell 3 percent year on year to $68.8 million in the ‎first quarter that ended June 30, 2012. Comparable-store sales increased 3 percent. ‎

The decline in sales came as the company operated 10 fewer stores than in the previous ‎year. Birks & Mayors also wrote off $1.7 million due to currency conversions as ‎the Canadian dollar depreciated against the U.S. dollar.  ‎
