RAPAPORT... ALROSA named an 83.59-carat rough diamond ‘Mothers of Russia’ after recovering the gem-quality stone at the Yubileynaya mine in Russia in February.

The ‘2 black Sawables 3 color’ quality diamond contains small graphite-sulphide inclusions and measures 28 millimeters x 26.5 millimeters x 26 millimeters, according to a company statement. ALROSA’s Aikhal Mining and Processing Division extracted the octahedron-shaped crystal that is transparent with a yellow hue.

ALROSA’s president Andrey Zharkov signed off on the name following a meeting of the company’s special commission.
