RAPAPORT... Mobile sales this holiday season have surged 50 to 60
percent over last year’s season, according to data analytics group comScore.
Amazon has had the strongest season for mobile sales,
according to Gian Fulgoni, executive chairman and co-founder of comScore, while
multi-channel retailers such as Target and Walmart were early adapters of this
trend toward mobility.
“There’s no question that Amazon and eBay, the pure-play online retailers, were the first to figure out the importance of mobile and the importance of apps,” Fulgoni said in an interview with TV network CNBC December 16, which comScore posted on its website.
Amazon received
almost as many website visits as the next three retailers put together – at
least 4.8 billion, compared with a combined 4.9 billion for eBay, Walmart and
Target.
On Cyber Monday, one of the earliest large shopping
days of the season, mobile sales contributed about 21 percent of digital
revenues across the market, at $548 million, according to comScore.
