The legend of the curse of the “Evil Eye” — caused by the stare of a jealous person — has been around since the time of the Mesopotamians. The ancient Egyptians, Greeks and Romans all believed in the malevolent eye. To this day, the evil eye remains an integral part of Middle Eastern culture and the belief has spread around the world. To deflect the malice of the evil eye, amulets with an eye-like appearance are worn as protection. Today, the protective eye is a popular talisman with many design interpretations that often include a sprinkling of diamonds.
