RAPAPORT... UBM India is organizing its first Kolkata Jewellery & Gem Fair, a three-day business-to-business industry trade fair scheduled for January 11 to 13, 2014. Organizers anticipate approximately 6,000 buyers and attendees and 160 exhibitors, including loose diamond and gold jewelry dealers.
The fair will be held at the Milan Mela Exhibition Complex at Science City, Kolkata and serve as a platform for domestic and international exhibitors to showcase signature designs and products in this eastern city.
Vivek Jain, of the Calcutta Gems & Jewellery Association 2002, said, “The Kolkata Jewellery & Gem Fair 2014 by UBM India will provide an ideal platform for buyers from all over the country and the gem and jewelry industry of east India. Kolkata handmade jewelry finally gets a long deserved platform to showcase the best of the creations to the entire world. This is truly a proud moment to be associated with this mega initiative.”
UBM India also created the ''Golden Hand Award'' for this new show to highlight superior designs. Bablu De, the president of Swarn Shilpi Bachao Samiti, said, “The Golden Hand Awards are one of the first of its kind initiative for the entire craftsmen community. Initiatives like these recognize the artistic brilliance of Indian karigars who have long been deprived of platforms where they can exhibit their skills to the industry at large.”
Joji George, the managing director of UBM India, added, “The Kolkata Jewellery & Gem Fair and the Golden Hand Award is poised to enhance jewelry business and craftsmanship in east India and help them grow further. The fair will be a mix of domestic and international jewelry all under one roof and will not only let businesses showcase their top of the line products, but also give them a solid networking platform.”
