Belgium's Polished Exports +9% in February

RAPAPORT... Belgium's polished diamond exports rose 8.7 percent year on year to $1.766 billion in February, according to the Antwerp World Diamond Centre.  By volume, exports rose 11.8 percent to 654,143 carats. Polished imports jumped 10.6 percent to $1 billion, leaving net exports of $766 million --  down from about $820 million one year ago. 

Rough diamond imports in February plummeted 23.6 percent to $1.04 billion, while rough exports fell 25.6 percent to $1.057 billion. Net rough imports recorded a  deficit of $17 million compared with a deficit of $61 million in February 2014. Belgium's net diamond account, revealing the difference between net imports and net exports, fell 11.1 percent year on year to $783 million in February.

Polished exports for the first two months of 2015, fell 1 percent to $2.575 billion, while polished imports fell 3.7 percent to $2.114 billion, leaving net exports up 13.7 percent to $461.1 million. Rough imports fell 30.7 percent to $1.879 billion and rough exports fell 28.5 percent to $1.906 billion, leaving net imports with a deficit of  $26.7 million although it was 61.4 percent improved compared with one year ago.  The net diamond account for Belgium rose 4.7 percent year on year to $487.8 million for the first two months of the year.
