RAPAPORT... Dominion Diamond Corporation saw a 15 percent year-on-year drop in diamond processing from the Diavik Diamond Mine to 480,000 tonnes in the third quarter.

The decrease in the three months through September resulted from the fact that additional stockpile was available and processed during the comparable quarter in 2014 that was fully exhausted by the end of that calendar year; and the drop in ore availability in the most recent quarter because of poor ground conditions at A-418 and A-154 North, according to a Dominion statement released October 15.

Diamonds recovered in the third calendar quarter were 24% lower than the same quarter of the prior year reflecting lower processing volumes and lower recovered grades from the A-154 South and A-418 pipes which was offset in part by increased production from coarse ore rejects. It also said the development of the A-21 pipe is progressing according to plan.

Dominion expects its full-year production target to be 2 million tonnes mined, 2 million tonnes processed and 6.8 million carats, in addition to an estimated 0.2 million carats from coarse ore rejects. It added that mining activities would be exclusively underground. Out of its ore mining, 0.5 tonnes would come from the A-154 South mine, 0.7 tonnes from A-154 and 0.8 tonnes from A-418.

The figures are on a 100 percent basis. Dominion owns 40 percent of the mine. The remaining 60 percent is owned by Rio Tinto.
