RAPAPORT... Jewelry and watches owned by Elvis Presley will be among
items auctioned at the American singer and actor’s Graceland home in Memphis,
Tennessee, next month.
“The Auction at Graceland” on
January 7 will offer a gold, diamond and rock crystal quartz ring gifted by
Elvis to his friend Linda Thompson, estimated at $15,000 to $20,000, according
to a statement December 15. Also up for bids is a 14-karat gold necklace gifted
to bodyguard Sam Thompson featuring the initials “TCB,” estimated at $12,000 to
$15,000.
Other lots include a gold Baume & Mercier watch
gifted by Elvis to Armond Morales, a member of the band The Imperials, at the International
Hotel in Las Vegas in 1969, estimated at $10,000 to $15,000, and a 1973 gold
Omega TC1 digital watch with an inscription, gifted to musician and friend
Charlie Hodge, estimated at $4,000 to $6,000.
The most
valuable item at the event, Elvis’ guitar used on stage at the 1973 Aloha from Hawaii concert, is estimated
at $300,000 to $500,000. It was given to a fan in the front row at a concert
in Asheville, North Carolina, in 1975.
The sale, run by
Graceland Auctions, allows bids online and in person at the mansion in Memphis,
Tennessee. Select artifacts are on view until January 7 at the Elvis Presley
Automobile Museum.
