RAPAPORT... MID House of Diamonds was the premier Israeli
polished-diamond exporter for the fourth year running, according to a list the
nation’s Ministry of Economy and Industry published recently.
The company, whose exports rose 12% to $196 million in 2018,
was one of several in the top 10 that saw an increase.
Niru Diamonds took the second spot, moving up from third in
2017, with its exports increasing 16% to $134 million. Annita Diamonds jumped
into third place from its eighth-place position the previous year.
The company nearly doubled its export business, which surged 98% to $93 million.
Other companies that saw an increase were fourth-placed Yoshfe Diamonds International, as well as Leo Schachter Diamonds,
which moved from the sixth to fifth.
Kuperman Bros. Diamonds and Pinkusovich Diamond Traders finished ninth and 10th.
Andre Messika was the only company previously in the top 10
to note a drop in exports, falling 20% to $56 million. It didn’t respond to a request from Rapaport News for comment.
D.N. Diamonds, which placed second in 2017, chose not to participate
this year, the company confirmed to Rapaport News Monday. The list did not include companies that opted to keep their data confidential.
Polished exports for the country slipped 2.5% to $4.48 billion in 2018, yet the trade is showing increasing signs of stability versus the heavier declines of the preceding three years, government data showed.
More than 45 companies reported polished-diamond exports
exceeding $18 million each, the government said.
