WJA Recognizes 2014 Shining Stars

Press Release: The Women's Jewelry Association (WJA) announces the winners of its 2014 Shining Stars awards, which annually recognize a member from each regional chapter who has given extraordinary service to her chapter. The winners receive an expenses-paid trip to New York City, where they will be honored on March 5 at WJA In The Spotlight, an evening of cocktails, dinner and networking on the 44th Floor of the spectacular Hearst Tower. Shining Stars also receive discounted tickets to WJA's In The Know educational conference, also taking place on March 5.

The Shining Stars for 2014 are listed below, along with the chapters that elected them:

Edith Wun - Northern California Chapter
Edith Wun works in wholesale sales of natural fancy color diamonds to designers and retailers throughout the world. She has worked for a Diamonds International watch and design store and her experience also includes selling jewelry and watches at Neiman Marcus and Tiffany & Co.

Rebecca Moskal - Los Angeles Chapter

Rebecca Moskal is a partner at Communiqué, a Los Angeles-based boutique marketing firm, specializing in fine jewelry and watches. She has over a decade of experience in luxury and jewelry marketing, with clients including Bulgari, David Yurman, Van Cleef & Arpels and Beaudry.

Lisa Slovis Mandel - San Diego Chapter
Lisa Slovis Mandel of Lisa Slovis Mandel Metalsmith in San Diego, is a nationally recognized metalsmith, jeweler and teacher. She has exhibited in galleries, museums and at shows across the country; received a SNAG Educational Endowment Grant and several Niche Awards; and authored her first book, ''Pewter Studio.'' She also serves as scholarship chair for the WJA Scholarship Fund Board of Trustees.

Penny Ruston - Midwest Chapter
Penny Ruston has spent her professional career in the jewelry industry for close to 45 years and was a charter member of the WJA. She won an Award for Excellence in Sales in 1985. She started her career in retail, and has sold for brands including Lagos, Ebel and Roberto Coin. Ruston now serves on the board as chair of the mentorship program for the WJA Midwest chapter.

Kathy Carey - Twin Cities Chapter
Kathy Carey has worked at Stebgo Metals, a refining company in South St. Paul, Minnesota  for over 15 years. Starting out in accounting, she has expanded her experience by working in all other aspects of the business. Carey is a long-time active member of WJA and she joined the WJA Twin Cities board as membership chair in 2012. She is currently treasurer for the group.

Billie Sutter - Metro New York Chapter
Billie Sutter is the owner of Luxe Alliances in New York City, which builds strategic partnerships for luxury brands. Her global alliances are across industries: beauty, fragrance, jewelry, watches, furs, fashion, retail, tabletop, home furnishings, automobiles, fine wines, yachts and private jets. Sutter has been a member of the launch and repositioning teams for Vanity Fair, Connoisseur, Elle, The Four Seasons Hotel and Resort, and the Social Register.

Keri Campbell - New England Chapter
Keri Campbell is executive vice president of marketing and sales for Armbrust International in Providence, Rhode Island. She currently serves as vice president of the New England WJA chapter.

Andrea Li - Colorado Chapter
Andrea Li of Andrea Li Designs, has been creating jewelry for 10 years. She exercises a hands-on approach to the entire process, from the buying and conceptualization to the fabrication of each piece. Li never sketches her designs before the process of creation begins. Her hand-selected gemstones dictate the direction. Li's sculptural designs are one-of-a-kind originals.

Diane Flora - Southwest Chapter
Diane Flora is the membership & education manager at the American Gem Trade Association (AGTA). She is a Gemological Institute of America (GIA) Graduate Gemologist and a Certified Gemologist Appraiser of the American Gem Society (AGS). Before joining AGTA, Flora was the Director of Education at the AGS for 10 years, and prior to that, an instructor for GIA.

Debbie Hiss - Seattle Chapter
Debbie Hiss of Debbie Hiss Consulting in Seattle, has been involved with all aspects of sales and product training throughout her career. Currently, she is consulting with a number of companies and organizations, including the American Gem Society, HRA/Crossworks (the largest diamond manufacturing company in Canada), and MK Diamonds in Los Angeles. She has also held positions at Lazare Kaplan International, Hearts on Fire and Forevermark, part of the De Beers group of companies.
