Press Release: On the heels of last year’s successful Gemological Institute of America (GIA) New York Jewelry Career Fair, which connected 44 gem and jewelry companies with more than 800 aspiring professionals, the Institute has announced a not to be missed opening panel for its July 28 event at the Jacob Javits Center. The leading industry event is free for job seekers and open to the public; anyone interested in attending is urged to RSVP prior to the event.

The career fair will begin with a panel of industry leaders discussing “Job Success in Today’s Market,” moderated by Susan Jacques, the president and CEO of GIA and featuring Mercedes Abramo, the president and CEO of Cartier North America; Ashley Chan of Leslie Hindman Auctioneers; Andrea Hansen, a partner of Luxe Intelligence and president of the Women’s Jewelry Association; Douglas K. Hucker, the CEO of AGTA and Steven Lagos, the founder and chief creative director of LAGOS Jewelry. The panelists tell the stories of their unique journeys to success and offer practical advice for aspiring gem and jewelry professionals.

“GIA’s New York Jewelry Career Fair is a singular opportunity to hear from some of the most distinguished and successful luminaries in our industry right in the heart of one of the world’s leading gem and jewelry centers,” said Kathryn Kimmel, GIA's vice president and chief marketing officer and co-founder of the GIA Jewelry Career Fair. “We encourage everyone with an interest in jewelry – whether you’re a seasoned pro, a newcomer to the trade or a jewelry lover – to come out and see firsthand how vast the opportunities in our industry really are.”

Aspiring jewelry professionals – including those in retail, design and manufacturing – will be able to meet with dozens of job recruiters and spend one-on-one time with volunteer career-coaches.

GIA’s New York Jewelry Career Fair will take place from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday, July 28 at the Javits Center during the JA New York show. Recruiting will occur from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event is sponsored by JA New York. Since then, the event has expanded, bringing gem and jewelry companies and future employees together at more than 50 events in India, Las Vegas, New York and the GIA world headquarters in Carlsbad, California. Following the New York event, the next GIA Carlsbad Jewelry Career Fair will take place on Friday, October 10.
