As we move through March, our thoughts turn longingly to spring…and the new trends that it brings, not just in weather, but in fashion as well. The ENK Accessorie Circuit that kicked off the season serves as a barometer of what is coming up. For starters, bold, bright neon colors are in the spotlight. The Pantone color of the year for 2012 is Tangerine Tango, a lively, warm reddish-orange that is joined by mid-tone greens, yellows, fuchsia pink and blue, often used together in large color blocks. Alternatively, optical black and white looks fresh. Diamonds work well with any of these colors, but so do diamond-accented jewels with peridot, emerald, jade, spessertite garnet, citrine or fancy color sapphire. The 1970s continue to influence fashion as the newest directional hem length goes below the knee to resurrect the midi, so popular in that decade. Floral prints and looser silhouettes, as well as stripes that bring the warmth of the beach anywhere, are key. Jewelry is surfacing in two ways — either small pieces worn singly for subtle understatement or stacked to create individual chic. One large piece of jewelry is also an important look. Long earrings are a must-have as are diamond solitaire earrings — think Angelina Jolie and others at recent red-carpet events, who wore diamond solitaire earrings with a bracelet or ring to complete their outfits. The big-earring look made an appearance on the red carpet worn with little or no other jewelry. Personalization through jewelry remains a major trend for 2012, with initials and zodiac themes leading the way. Blackened silver, sometimes combined with gold, continues strong, creating a vintage vibe — another element borrowed from the 1970s — that is enhanced by gray or champagne diamonds. Green stones are a must. Speaking of green, jewelry that is kind to the environment is also top-of-mind for consumers. Overall, the look of the season can go two ways: sporty with a nautical twist, or classic ladylike anchored by longer-length skirts made glamourous with jewelry and metallic accessories.
