Designer Lines

By Amber Michelle
A known destination for high style and a showcase for designers, New York City–based Bergdorf Goodman renovated its jewelry salon that features a carefully curated collection of fine jewelry by select designers. To further mark the experience, the high-end retailer collaborated with Gemfields, a supplier of responsibly sourced colored gemstones, to create an exclusive selection of pieces showcasing Mozambican rubies and Zambian emeralds from the Gemfields mines. The collection debuted in December 2015.

Gemfields has pioneered environmental, social and safety standards within the mining sector, enabling the company to provide consumers with assurances about each gemstone’s journey from mine to market. The collaboration is the first time that consumers will be able to shop a variety of jewelry featuring Gemfields stones in one retail location. Ian Harbottle, Gemfields chief executive officer (CEO), notes that the new salon provides an ideal platform to showcase the mine’s rubies and emeralds in “truly extraordinary designs.”
A group of jewelry designers whose creations are in Bergdorf Goodman were given access to Mozambican rubies and Zambian emeralds from Gemfields to create pieces for this special collection. Participating designers include:

The renovated jewelry salon was conceptualized by Linda Fargo, senior vice president, women’s fashion director and store presentation for Bergdorf Goodman. Michael Neumann, principal, Michael Neumann Architecture, brought the new space to life. The historic architectural details in the venue were refurbished to their original radiance. New elements inspired by 1930s French Moderne were incorporated to further enhance the area, which features a pearl gray palette that adds timeless sophistication and elegance to the setting. A private viewing room has also been added so that customers will have a more intimate place to view the creations.
