Namdakov Jewelry on Display in NYC
In celebration of the 60th anniversary of Gilbert Albert Jewelry, the design house is showcasing “Magical Visions: The Jewelry and Sculpture of Dashi Namdakov” at its New York City gallery. Formally trained as a sculptor, the Buryat, Russia-born multimedia artist Namdakov draws upon Buddhism and Shamanism as well as natural, spiritual and historic sources to create pieces that reflect a larger sense of life.
Presented by the Russian American Foundation, the exhibit is a collection of sculptures, silver miniatures, graphic works and 40 jewelry pieces. Highlighting Namdakov’s background as a sculptor, each piece of jewelry is an intricately detailed, fanciful creature with expressive faces. Gemstones are used as glowing eyes, shining teeth or to highlight the structure of the face in such a way that it brings each piece to life. Namdakov balances line and motion in a three-dimensional form using animal bone, precious metals and gems.
