Jewelers That Care
, a nonprofit organization, has built its first water well project in North Pare Mountains Mwanga District in the Kilimanjaro region of Tanzania. The well provides clean water for the village, freeing women and children from the arduous task of fetching and carrying water for household needs. After the first well was built, to raise money to build more wells, Alethe Clemetson, Jewelers That Care’s executive director and founder, came up with the idea to create a water-pump pendant. Designed by Thomas Kurilla and manufactured by Hoover & Strong, the piece is made using recycled silver. A portion of the sale of the water-pump pendant goes to funding water well projects in villages in the Mwanga District of Tanzania. For more information on the water-pump pendants, visit jewelersthatcare.org.
